Lawmakers gird for renewed deepwater funding battle

Article Abstract:

The US Coast Guard's $24 billion Deepwater modernization program that looks to replacing the aging cutter fleet and aircraft with equipment that is technology more advanced was stalled in the US House and Senate due to differing interpretations of the fiscal 2006 Homeland Security Appropriations Act. A more likely reason for the sparring could be that the House hopes to get certain concessions from the Senate in exchange for its support for the project.
