New roles for submarines

Article Abstract:

The submarines were regarded as the best means for Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) along with an additional secondary Anti-Surface Warfare (ASuW) role, but the emergence of the new strategic and operational scenarios after the end of Cold War has changed their roles. The submarine's new role has been shifted towards expeditionary missions with a particular attention to operations in coastal and littoral waters as well as asymmetric conflicts.

Inner layer defense - requirements and solutions

Article Abstract:

A new kind of naval threat has materialized in the form of Fast Inshore Attack Craft (FIAC), thereby threatening the 'inner layer defence' concept for protecting naval vessels. An assessment of the requirements of the navies to counter the threat is done and the solutions made available to satisfy the inner layer defence requirement by a number of leading navies are described.

When speed matters: Naval fast interceptors

Article Abstract:

High Speed Interceptor Crafts (HSICs) are used by naval Special Forces for intercepting intruders to sensitive areas, pirates, militias, terrorists and weapon-traffickers. The design factors and different models of HSICs, capable of operating at 50 knots and beyond, are presented.
