Nigeria's future stability rests on its democratic success

Article Abstract:

Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo is seeking a constitutional amendment for contesting the national elections for the third term as the second term of office is coming to an end in 2006. Despite the publicity given to the problems in the Niger Delta, the threat of nationwide insecurity as a result of Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo's uncertain succession and his potential campaign for a third term is far more serious.

Africa turns from instability and conflict to mutual co-operation

Article Abstract:

Greater cross-border corporation is turning the African region, which hitherto had suffered widespread instability and conflict, into a generally more secure region.The various cross-board initiatives like the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Southern African Development Community taken up by the states of the African region are examined from the perspective of their promoting stability in the region.

Falling oil production threatens Gabonese security

Article Abstract:

The steadily falling oil production and tumbling government revenues in Gabon has led to a host of problems like rising unemployment, increased poverty and falling standards of living. The insecurity is set to deteriorate for many years to come that makes Gabon's situation unstable.
