The duty of military attorneys, or staff judge advocates, is to advise commanders on the legal aspects of military operations. However, it must be remembered that the commander is the client, and has the final authority.

On the horns of our own dilemma; will the Corps' future battlefield leaders do the right thing?

Article Abstract:

Military commanders could see entire battlefields until the time of Napoleon, when it became necessary to receive reports and issue orders through members of a staff. Now computers and information technology again make it possible for commanders to view the entire battle. Benefits and possible difficulties are discussed.
