Philippine kidnap gang leader killed

Article Abstract:

Philippine government forces have confirmed the death of the kidnap gang leader following the airstrikes on his gang's Mindanao stronghold. Tahir Alonto, head of the Pentagon Gang, a heavily armed Muslim group responsible to more than 30 kidnappings was killed along with his 18 followers when Philippine Air Force attacked his house in Liguasan Marsh area of central Mindanao on 13 August 2004.

Police interdict arms traffic to Aceh

The arrests of Indonesian gunrunners have disrupted the traffic in small-arms between southern Thailand and the province of Aceh in northern Sumatra. The new insights provided into the mechanisms of the trade along one of Southeast AsiaEs primary arms trafficking routes by the Indonesian national police is presented.
