Poland delays fighter purchase

Article Abstract:

Poland has decided to delay a proposed procurement of a modern multi-purpose fighter aircraft for its Air Force until after 2000. However, Polish Defense Minister Janusz Onyskiewicz said the assessment of different solutions of offer will continue so a decision could be quickly made as soon as overall economy situation allows. The Polish Air Force has a requirement for as much as 100 multi-purpose fighters to replace its ageing fleet of MiG-23s, MiG 21 Bis and Su-20s. Poland's fighter procurement programme was originally tentatively expected to run in parallel with the nation joining NATO.

PZL-130 ORLIK

Article Abstract:

The turboprop-powered, two-seat, fully aerobatics PZL-130 ORLIK military trainer aircraft can be employed for a wider training syllabus. The aircraft has been particularly engineered to provide jet-like handling characteristics and it could maintain the low trining costs usual of turboprops. A low-wing monoplane, the ORLIK has a maximum rating of 760shp and features an all-metal primary structure.

Materiel projects in the RNALF

Article Abstract:

The Royal Netherlands Air Force's Directorate of Materiel is responsible for the procurement and upgrade of materiel to ensure the superiority of the country's weapon systems. These equioment include fighter aircraft, helicopters, ground-based air defense and transport aircraft. These procurement projects, which have a total financial value of around $6 billion, are discussed.
