The US Defense Department is being forced to start pressing manufacturers for discounts as the Congress is setting its sights on cutting alarming rises in weapon costs. Representative Duncan Hunter, committee chairman, believes that the military services should call in their best weapon engineers and meet with shipbuilders and aircraft makers to search for ways to cut prices by fifteen percent.

The Defense Department and Pentagon are spending very less on securing fissile material and weapons for mass destruction (WMDs) in 2008, 25% less than what it spent in 2006. PentagonEs efforts with nonproliferation have not gone down well with the White House and it is believed that instead of removing WMDs, the Pentagon is more interested in acquiring bombers and ammunition.
