Proportionality in the law of war

Article Abstract:

The law of war (LOW) principle called proportionality, based on the concept of maneuver warfare, has been mistaken by many as the amount of force necessary to defeat the enemy and accomplish the mission as opposed to striking critical enemy vulnerabilities in order to cause the greatest damage to the enemy's ability to fight. The need to understand the differences between these two concepts and adhere to established vocabulary is highlighted.

Sustained security operations in the combat zone

Article Abstract:

The Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) was aimed at creating a separate rotation for the combat operations center (COC) consisting of two radio watches and a watch commander. The mission conducted at the CPA was one small part of the overall effort by all American, military and civilian, serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF).
