Rebuilding reconnaissance

Article Abstract:

In order to return Marine reconnaissance to its former position as the Nation's premier ground reconnaissance force, a different approach needs to be taken for recruiting and training recon Marines. The current semiformal training for military occupational specialty needs to be replaced by a consolidated and singularly focused training program imparted at one schoolhouse and returns could be expected in the form of a minimum commitment of 4 years of obligated service by the trainee.

Taking care of Marines: The need for greater education on personal finances

Article Abstract:

The Officer in Charge (OIC) and Staff Non-commissioned OIC (SNOIC), Marine Corps Base Hawaii Tax Center, have disclosed that many junior enlisted Marines are not being armed with the requisite knowledge to ensure their future financial security. A better blueprint for financial independence and security should be presented to the junior Marines so that they are financially fit and thus bolstering the Marine Corps as a force in readiness.

Ten years of TDGs

Article Abstract:

Tactical decision games (TDGs) reflect the tactical thinking and techniques of small but thoughtful percentage of Marines and these games are also a valuable teaching tool that improves the skills in issuing combat orders. A good TDG order includes an assessment of the situation, a tie to the higher extent, a unit mission and intent, a series of subordinate tasks and intents, a designated main effort and a designated reserve.
