Second seawolf-class SSN completes initial sea trials

Article Abstract:

Electric Boat Corp has completed the sea trial for the second Seawolf-class nuclear powered attack submarine for the US Navy. The sea trial involves deep sea dives and several tests of its propulsion systems. The new vessel was christened USS Connecticut and will be commisioned for active duty as SSN 22 on Dec 11, 1999. THe company is currently constructing the last Seawolf-class submarine for the Navy and is involved with Newport News Shipbuilding for the design and construction of New Attack Submarines.

Bollinger launches stealthy cyclone PC

Article Abstract:

Bollinger Shipyards has launched Tornado, the 14th Cyclone-class coastal patrol ship for the US Navy. The 360-ton ship boasts significant structural and electronic improvements from the original Cyclone structural design. The Tornado also has a larger hull to include a ramp for launching and recovering naval special warfare vehicles.The ship also features an integrated bridge command-and-control system, a satellite- navigation system, a forward-looking infrared system and a surface-search radar.
