Space and missile defense: success 1999, focus 2000
Article Abstract:
The US is closer to achieving a national missile defense as envisioned under the National Defense Act of 1999. This surfaces after a 120-pound exoatmospheric kill vehicle intercepted and disintegrated upon impact a missile launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base, CA. The exoatmospheric kill vehicle was launched from Kwajalein Atoll 4,300 miles out in the Pacific. The US will hold three more intercept tests in 2000 to further demosntrate the hit-to-kill technology.
