Spanish Army aims to extend artillery reach with procurement of projectiles and charges

Article Abstract:

The Spanish Army, which relies heavily on the obsolescent 18 km-range M107 155 artillery shell for its fire support, is looking to extend the reach of its artillery through the acquisition of projectiles and charges in 2006. A longer-term goal is to acquire the Oto Melara Vulcano projectile, which in its guided configuration offers a range in excess of 100 km when fired from 52-calibre 155mm artillery systems such as the General Dynamics Santa Barbara Sistemas (GDSBS) SIAC towed howitzer.
