The Royal Malaysian Navy - yesterday, today and tomorrow

Article Abstract:

The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) ensures the maritime sovereignty of the nation, protects the offshore resources especially in oil and gas, and assists other civil agencies in anti piracy and EEZ law enforcement. RMN also provides support for Army and Air Force operations and assisting in Search and Rescue (SAR) and disaster relief operations ensuring the safety of Sea Lines of Communication (SLOC).

Straits of Malacca and Singapore: Unique choke points

Singapore and the Strait of Malacca take a prime position to be safeguarded since maritime traffic and the Sea Lanes of Communications have become crucial issues with the increasing transportation of goods by sea. Traffic volume through the Malacca and Singapore Straits is likely to increase by about 60 percent.
