The concept of distributed operations proves to be a new pathway for significant innovations to tactics, techniques and procedures that enhances the relevance of the Marine Corps to the combatant commanders. The additive capability or new mission, size of distributed operations force, ability to mass and training requirements are the four main hurdles to distributed operations.

Distributed operations (DO) is always variously described as a concept, operating approach, or a category of mission sets with associated mission essential tasks. An alternate view of DO is presented as a technique to accomplish a task, which enables the Marine Corps to refine the DO concept.

Article Abstract:

The distributed operations bring opportunity and challenge to the intelligence at the level of tactics and technology. Marines like LCpl Swain and many others in the US are the prominent in showing the best use of intelligence in distributed operations.
