The harrowing origins of 'Raiders from the Deep'

Article Abstract:

The presentations, which covered the evolution of reconnaissance force insertion, from World War II through the present, were made at the Submarine Force History Symposium titled 'Raiders from the Deep.' The speech made by retired Marine Colonel John Ripley, the head of the Marine Corps Historical Center, in which he discussed his early days as a member of a Marine Force Reconnaissance unit that trained to deploy clandestinely from beneath the waves, was particularly captivating.

Lake Washington hosts regional conference, salutes Healy COs

Article Abstract:

The Lake Washington Council played host to Navy Leaguers from around the region and a group of Coast Guardsmen who traveled to the North Pole and back. The conference featured two days of training workshops, meetings and keynote addresses from Navy League National President, President John A. Panneton, Coast Guard Rear Adm. Joel Whitehead, assistant commandant for congressional and public affairs, and the US Rep. David Reichert.

Seattle Council co-hosts Seafair fleet port visits

Article Abstract:

A month-long festival, Seattle's 55the Annual Seafair, featured parades, amateur athlete events, an air show by Navy's Blue Angels, hydroplane racing and ship visits. A four-day port visit by a fleet of US Navy, US Coast Guard and Canadian coastal defense vessels provided ample opportunity to see the ships, meet their crews and get a taste of shiphood life for Navy Leaguers.
