Warrior 2000 offered to Swiss Army

Article Abstract:

GKN Defence has come up with the prototype of its Warrior 2000 infantry fighting vehicle (IFV), which it is offering to the Swiss Army. The Warrior 2000 is a stretched variant of the original Warrior IFV and has such stealth features as backward venting of exhaust via an air-cooled silencer. Spaced aluminum armor affords protection against direct fire from as powerful as 30mm Armour Piercing Fin Stabilized ammunition. With the Delco turret, Warrior 2000 weighs 30.4 tonnes. It is powered by a Perkins V8 Condor diesel engine that is used at its maximum rating of 650 horsepower. The IFV carries 10 personnel: a driver, a vehicle commander, a gunner and seven soldiers.

The shrinking world of satcoms

Article Abstract:

The move to smaller and lighter antennas and terminals is evident in the commercial satellite communications services arena. This development has led to the US Army space and Missile Defense Battle Lab's Joint Expeditionary Digital Information program which illustrates the promise and the risk of such an approach to satellite communications.

Command, control - but stay mobile!

Article Abstract:

The importance of a mobile command post in modern military maneuvers ensures the continued need for vehicles that will offer armored protection for military commanders. However, most command and control vehicles are merely retooled versions of armored personnel carriers and, as such, offer very limited space for the electronic equipment required for such vehicles. Some of the models available in the market include the Vehicule Blinde Leger from Panhard and the AMX-10 PC from Giat.
