Snapshots of Greece: "Never on Sunday" and the East/West politics of the 'Vacation Film.'
Article Abstract:
The film 'Never on Sunday' (1962) was not loaded with cultural and political perspectives about ancient Greece and modern Greek society because the filmmaker did not believe that ancient culture can adequately be understood by the newer generations. What was accentuated in the film was the potentiality of the country to become a place for vacation as also stressed by other films. However, the film represents the best attempt by a filmmaker to portray cultural and political aspects of contemporary Greece.

Thread structure: rewriting the Hollywood formula
Article Abstract:
Hollywood films such as 'Pulp Fiction,' 'Lone Star,' and 'The English Patient' supplant the traditional linear structure with multiple story threads. Unlike the tradition of a single story line, contemporary threads are often complexly interwoven and sometimes abruptly ended, yet all threads have approximately equal dramatic significance.
