The problem of the Divo: New models for analyzing silent-film performance
Article Abstract:
A study analyzing in specific dramatic contexts, the purpose, function, and operation of poses in a silent-film performance, without relying on analytic categories like the histrionic and verisimilar is illustrated. Poses can be identified by five criteria namely, a slightly suspended movement of an actor, the communication of a character's interior condition through a posture, repetition of the actor's posture in a certain pattern, and a conventional posture displayed by the actor.
