50 years of amplifiers
Article Abstract:
The triode power amplifiers of the 1940s were replaced by pentode power tubes in the 1950s. In the late 1950s the transistor became a new form of amplifying device, and solid state amplifiers gradually became more powerful. A revival of tube amplifiers has occurred in the 1990s.

Article Abstract:
The introduction of 33 1/3-rpm recordings in the 1940s spurred the development of quality phono pickups. In the 1950s stereophonic sound required new pickup designs. The luxury-line cartridges of the 1960s were an other improvement in playback sound.
