Article Abstract:

A Hong Kong distributor of audio-visual products visited one of his dealers in Guangzhou, China, on a day when the dealer was packing up all imported audio and video equipment displayed in the store. The store was then completely closed down. Other businesses had also closed. Tax and customs officers had raided shops, arrested workers, and confiscated inventory of illegally imported equipment.

Manufacturers of high-fidelity sound systems have product exhibitions in Europe because of the number of audiophiles who live there. Shows held in London, England and Milan, Italy, are often well-attended even though they are a few weeks apart. Products shown at the exhibitions are not always found in the US. Some of them are descsribed.

TROUBLING TRENDS SHAKE BRITISH AUDIO

Article Abstract:

British companies that produce loud speakers have not been faring well in the 1990s. TGI, for instance, announced in 1998 that they were losing money. Rogers, however, closed shop, as did Morduant-Short. Spendor is still in business, as is Harbeth. What will happen with Epos is not clear as of 1999.
