Folk music education: initiatives in Finland
Article Abstract:
Initiatives in folk music education in Finland have influenced contemporary folk music concepts and has gone on to influence world music. The transmission of folk music is examined not only orally from one generation to another but in transmission in terms of formal educational contexts in schools, music colleges and universities.

'The Captain's Apprentice' and the death of young Robert Eastwick of King's Lynn: a study in the development of a folk song
Article Abstract:
'The Captain's Apprentice' is a folk song that was collected by Ralph Vaughan Williams in 1905, but it may have been originally based on true events that happened in 1857. Different versions of the song are examined and compared with a newspaper report on the death of a ship's apprentice.
