Wales has benefited from investment from European and American firms willing to relocate and take advantage of a large skilled workforce, access to road and rail networks and economic assistance from government. Swansea and Cardiff are the two main areas of growth, with both providing employment for large numbers of people previously employed in traditional industries, such as coal mining. The service sector is the largest employer in Wales, accounting for nearly 70% of the population.

Ivor Tiefenbrun founded Linn Products in 1974 and by 1985, the company's success was such that it could offer program sources and top-of-the line equipment. The LP12 turntable made the company quite well-known. The company uses original designs for its equipment at its factories in Scotland and the factories allow flexibility for increased efficiency. The company's electronics are not inexpensive, but their quality justifies their price.

Dying stars are surrounded by ejected material called planetary nebulae. Astronomers hope that research of the nebulae will provide insight into the nature of the universe and evolution of stars.
