Seven pairs of 2-way speakers, rated from 80 to 150 watts, are tested in outdoor situations with a small selection of source materials. They range in price from $200 to $500. The Rock Solid Sounds Solid Monitor ($299) both sounds and looks great, but all suffer in comparison with indoor speakers.

Martin-Logan SL3 speaker

The SL3 system is an attractive and unique 64-inch-tall tower. It's unique dipole system above 250Hz makes it a challenge to optimally position, but delivers clear, open, high-quality sound once the positioning is done. It is highly recommended at $3,195/pair.

Soundwave VR-3.5 speaker

The tall (40.25') and narrow (10') Soundwave VR-3.5 can produce excellent sound when properly placed, probably along the long wall of a listening room. Once positioning is optimized, the $1,690 per pair system delivers excellent clarity and ambience.
