Marie Slocombe helped the BBC to amass one of the finest collections of folk music in the world. Those interested in traditional British and Irish culture owe a great debt to Slocombe who in effect become the BBC's sound archivist in 1941 and created a national sound archive and helped direct the Folk Music and Dialect Recording Scheme in 1951.

Alan Bruford, 1937-1995
Article Abstract:
Alan Bruford, the senior archivist at the University of Edinburgh's School of Scottish Studies, died May 1995 at the age of 58. He was the editor of Tocher, a periodical in which hundreds of songs were published. His knowledge of Irish Gaelic folklore, Scottish Gaelic and Scots was recorded in more than a half-dozen books he authored.

Hamish Scott Henderson is described as the father of the Scottish Folk-song Revival movement. His ordinariness was extraordinary and his humility was a lesson for all.
