Speakers, separate and otherwise

The earliest hi-fi speakers, which were produced in the late 1940s, ushered in the trend in audio toward separate components. In those days, speakers and their enclosures were purchased separately. Later, Acoustic Research pioneered the modern loudspeaker, in which the enclosure is a key part.
