Article Abstract:
Test CD's can be used to improve the performance of a compact disc player and to aid in speaker placement, especially when used with a sound level meter. Test recordings from such diverse sources as Stanford University, Denon, Pierre Verany, and Chesky Records are described.

Magnecord was one of the first audio equipment firms to manufacture stereo recording devices based on magnetic tape media. A former Magnecord official describes how a reader sent him a functioning 1950s era Magnecord PT-6BN recorder and a collection of historic recordings.

Stereo's life during wartime
Article Abstract:
Berlin's Haus des Rundfunks, a radio broadcasting facility built in 1931, was the locus of several recordings of music made during World War II. Technician Helmut Kruger taped more than 200 of these recordings, and they sound surprisingly good in remastered CD versions.
