A deathwatch for Loewen Group
Article Abstract:
Burnaby, British Columbia-based Loewen Group Inc. executives maintain that the funeral services titan is healthy and is far from folding up, despite grim second quarter earnings. Company Chief Financial Officer Paul Wagler, who is also a board member, said reports of Loewen Group's death has been exaggerated the past three years. Loewen Group is finding it harder to tap markets for badly needed fresh capital to sustain its revenue-generating expansion. Meanwhile, investors, fund managers and analysts are weary of Loewen Group's missed financial expectations and recurrent management faux pas.
