IBM introduced on Apr 16, 1992, a portable computer that uses an electronic pen for entering data. The computer understands users' printing the same way other computers understand keyboard and mouse commands. Many computer companies are increasingly investing in pen-based, input-output technology.

The retail industry in Canada is reporting improved sales in 1992. Statistics Canada reports department store sales of $1.15 billion in October, a 4.3% increase over October 1991. The weak Canadian dollar has reduced the incidence of cross-border shopping, providing a boost to Canadian retailers.
