Allchin ran into problems, which he blamed on the phone lines and the hardware, and finally succeeded, but his difficulties only supported the Department of Justice's case against Microsoft.

In July 2001, a US federal order for Microsoft Corp. to be split into two separate entities was overturned in the U.S. Court of Appeals. Microsoft Corp. is still not over its legal battles, however, with the company still being judged a monopoly that acted illegally in its own interests.
