Telstra looks to supply Australia's geographically-challenging region with quality telephone services by using Scientific-Atlanta's Skylink network system. The Skylink digital communications network system offers benefits, such as better signal quality, space-segment cost cuts and less channel requirements for network servicing, through the utilization of demand assigned multiple access equipment.

Researchers studying geomagnetic reversals have called into question the prevailing view that Earth's magnetic field breaks up during such events. Evidence from the reversal that occurred 1 million years ago suggests the dipole field may in fact remain intact during reversals.
