Rural calls at crossroads
Article Abstract:
Rural telephone rates are facing possible increases as telecom companies find difficulty in providing the subsidies needed to support low rates in the rural areas. Lower charges in the rural areas are often subsidized through the higher rates charged to customers in urban districts. However, due to increasing competition in the global telecom market, coupled with the advent of Internet and wireless services, telephone companies might consider higher charges for rural phone services or else eliminate those services.

Great rates chip away at dial-around
Article Abstract:
The US dial-around market is seen to soon diminish as lower rates for long-distance calls are becoming more dominant. Boyd Peterson, an analyst in the Yankee Group, projects that the 10-10 dial-around business would decline as long distance prices fall to probably two cents to three cents per minute. Yankee reported that only around 18% of its survey respondents use dial-around for all their calls.
