Action in Congress
Article Abstract:
One of the controversial issues related to underage drinking is the advertising of alcoholic beverages. Many feel that alcohol advertisements should include health warnings similar to those concerning cigarette smoking. The alcoholic beverage industry and advertising agencies contend, however, that their constitutional rights to free speech will be infringed upon. They also differ with the belief that alcohol advertising is the primary source of alcohol education.

Should liquor commercials be banned from television?
Article Abstract:
Disagreement exists on whether liquor commercials should be allowed on television. Supporters of TV ads say that there is no scientific proof that liquor ads influence alcohol consumers' behavior. They note a hypocrisy in the print media opposing TV ads while not giving up its own liquor ads. Opponents of TV ads note that alcohol is a drug and ads for it should be regulated as such to protect the public, as any other drug ads are.

Encouraging teen abstinence: should birth control information be taboo?
Article Abstract:
More teenagers give birth in the US than any other industrialized nation. Congress is spending $837.5 mil over five years to encourage teenagers and unmarried adults to abstain from sexual intercourse. However, critics point out such programs are useless unless Congress allocates money to teach teenagers about contraceptives and disease prevention. Reports show inner-city children benefit the least from government programs.
