Lycos Inc's advertisements that features Bo, a black Labrador, has been generating positive results for the Internet service provider. The ads, under the 'Lycos. Go get it.' campaign received a 36% approval rating from a recent poll by USA TODAY's Ad Track. Lycos' commercial, which has also received good reviews overseas, has been instrumental in positioning the company as an 'Internet media network' that provides not only information but allows clients to interact with their friends.

Universal's got Rudy as park pitchman

One of the members of the popular television game series 'Survivor,' Rudy Boesch, has agreed to promote Universal's 'Islands of Adventure' theme park in Orlando, FL, in one commercial spot for an undisclosed amount. The television advertisement will feature Boesch walking through a tropical island setting while mulling his million-dollar-prize loss in 'Survivor.' The commercial may start airing as early as the weekend of Sep 9, 2000. Universal is also considering a more extensive relationship with Boesch.

Ads tap consumers' enthusiasm about galaxy of channels

DirecTV, the leading satelite broadcastign service in the US with 9 million subscribers, is defying the TV taboo with humorous commercials. Deutsch LA has created commercials for the company which shows consumers jumping for joy and gushing all over the DirecTV installer as he puts 225 TV channels at their fingertips for the first time. About 20% of consumers think the ads are very effective while an additional 58% think the ads are somewhat effective.
