Alberta to slow VLT machines
Article Abstract:
The Alberta, Canada, government has announced that it is introducing an experiment that will try to slow down the play of video lottery machines (VLTs). The government stated that the goal of the project is to lessen the addictiveness of VLTs although certain individuals have criticized the effort. The project calls for the performance of evaluations in August 1998 to determine the impact of a slowdown in play and a payout increase on selected gambling machines. The tests will be done on 24 machines in 10 establishments with an additional 10 locations acting as control sites.
