PBS picks Toronto firm to fill children's TV slate
Article Abstract:
Nelvana Ltd, a Toronto, Canada-based animation house, will produce six book-based children's series for US-based Public Broadcasting System (PBS) under a three-year, $40-million agreement. The six series will take PBS' Saturday morning children's timeslot and will be shown starting fall 2000. Nelvana, known for such shows as Little Bear, Franklin, Rupert and Babar, will keep worldwide rights to sell the children's series.

Nelvana animated on future earnings

Nelvana Ltd, a Toronto, Ontario-based producer of cartoon programming, will have to present tangible results in 2000 for the sweeping changes it had made, said analysts. Some analysts said the company has made a number of right moves, including an expansion of its proprietary production and library, but would have to translate the restructuring into profits in 2000 following a no-growth 1999.
