Yukon Party leader and semi-retired big game hunting outfitter John Ostashek defeated Premier Tony Penikett in the Yukon Territory's Oct 1992 general election. Ostashek criticized Penikett for wasting tax payer money. Ostashek will use the title 'government leader' rather than 'premier'.

Golden days on the last frontier: a century after the great rush, the Yukon is still a land of dreams
Article Abstract:
The Yukon will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the gold rush, which began in Aug 1986, and lured more 100,000 people to the territory. Although gold production is still an important industry, many people now come to the area for its spirit of individualism and freedom.

Wild in the streets: teenage gangs wreak havoc in Winnipeg
Article Abstract:
Winnipeg, Manitoba, has at least eight gangs, and three of those gangs are made up of Native youth. A series of gang-related shootings and other violence has caused police to step up enforcement. Close to 60 gang members have been arrested during summer 1995.
