Another U.S. firm sues Ottawa under NAFTA
Article Abstract:
Pope and Talbot Inc, a Portland, OR-based forest products company, has sued the Canadian government under the North American Free Trade Agreement. The suit, which seeks $30 million in damages, claims that the softwood lumber quota agreement between the US and Canada is unfair. The suit adds that the quota system discriminates against the company because it is only implemented in four provinces. The company, while based in the US, exports softwood from Canada to the US.
