'Corruption cancer'
Article Abstract:
The World Bank's President James Wolfensohn who turned the institution into an ally of all but the most radical bank critics among the word's NGOs, encountered the bank's working relationship with corrupt rulers who pocketed billions of dollars in aid funds. Wolfenshon in 1996 denounced what he called the 'cancer of corruption' as one reason poor countries were not pulling themselves out of poverty.
