Ten Canadian provincial premiers and two territorial leaders gathered in St Andrews, New Brunswick, during Aug 1997 to discuss various issues. The national unity question was not on the agenda, but Quebec Premier Lucien Bouchard was the dissenter on some crucial social issues.

Robert Giroux in suing John Adams and Scouts Canada for damages he sustained as a result of sexual abuse he sustained as a Sea Scout in the early 1980s. Since being molested by scout leader John Adams, Giroux has needed psychotherapy due to depression and suicide attempts.

A flood's aftermath: five months on, the Seguenay is still realing

The Saguenay area is recovering slowly from the Jul 1996 flood that killed 7 and forced about 16,000 from their homes. Officials estimate that it will take at least 2 years for the area to recover from the natural disaster, Canada's worst ever.
