Pressure on BCT.Telus to divulge strategy

BCT.Telus Communications Inc. President and CEO George Petty is under pressure to reveal his plans and business strategy for the new company, which was formed from the merger of BC Telecom Inc. and Telus Corp. However, Petty is not bowing to industry pressure. He said that he will only reveal his plans and strategy at the company's first annual meeting on May 11, 1999. Petty will also formally launch a new telecommunications company during the company meeting.

GTE VP rumoured as Getty's replacement

Burnaby, British Columbia-based BCT.Telus Communications Inc will likely hire GTE Corp Vice-President of International Operations Fares Salloum to succeed outgoing President and CEO George Petty, according to company insiders. BCT.Telus, which is 26.7%-controlled by GTE, said Petty will performing his duties until it finds his replacement. The company is also under a lot of pressure to improve its financial performance, a BCT.Telus official said.
