Higher Iraq oil output seen as threat

OPEC may lose its control over global oil prices if Iraq's crude production levels rise sharply. Vincent Lauerman, a leading energy analyst, said that Canadian oil sands development also may be jeopardized with a rapid expansion of Iraqi oil resources.

Industry analysts said that investors responded favorably to a rise in U.S. crude petroleum stocks following a resolution to the war in Iraq. Persian Gulf countries have released large supplies of crude petroleum driving down oil prices.
