A Liberal minority government is likely to shelve the merger of big banks with a view to sidestep potentially controversial reforms. Amongst transportation, financial services, energy and communications, the auto sector is expected to be the winner as a result of the $300 million financial help provided to Ford Motor Co. of Canada Ltd. and General Motors of Canada Ltd.

Bank bids dead until late 2004
