Brewing up a plan

S and P Co, the owner of Pabst Brewing, is poised to boost its beer business with the purchase of many of Stroh Brewery Co's brands for $400 million. The acquisition, which is anticipated to be completed in Apr 1999 pending the Justice Department approval, will make Pabst the fourt-biggest beer producer in the US, behind Anheuser-Busch, Miller Brewing and Coors. Pabst's case sales in 1998 fell 15.7% from 1997, while Stroh's case sales in 1998 dropped 14.2% from 1997. Pabst is the producer of Olde English 800, while Stroh's products include Cold 45 , Schlitz Malt Liquor and Old Milwaukee.

Amway takes aim at Web
Article Abstract:
Direct selling giant Amway Corp has formed a new company called Quixtar to sell its products on the Internet. Quixtar will market hundreds of consumer products at volume discount through distributors who will earn commissions on their sales and bonuses from the sales of distributors they recruit. The new company is part of Amway's strategy to boost its sagging worldwide sales and to attract a younger generation of consumers.
