Article Abstract:
A new strain of Salmonella typhimurium has contaminated Australian kitchens and restaurants since Dec 1996. The $42 bil food processing and beverage industry has had the reputation for clean food but is now experiencing a national outbreak of S. typhimurium phage type 64. Australia and New Zealand appear to follow trends in the US and Britain where food-borne pathogens are major public health issues.

Young people born since 1979, children of Baby Boomers, are called Generation Y by advertisers. Their patterns of consumption are different from the older age group labeled Generation X. Generation Y were raised knowing their identities were linked to the names on their clothing and accessories. Their sports heroes and hobbies separate them from their older brothers and sisters.
