Industrial-Alliance expects IPO this year
Article Abstract:
Industrial-Alliance Life Insurance Co is expecting to hold its initial public offering (IPO) by the end of 1999. Four leading Canadian life insurers are also making plans to become publicly traded firms, but Sillery, Quebec-based Industrial-Alliance is holding its IPO at least six months ahead of its rivals. Unlike its federally-chartered rivals, the mutual life and health insurance company is provincially chartered and a huge volume of its policy holders are in Canada, making it simpler for the company to change its structure.

QSC eyes jurisdiction of 3 exchanges
Article Abstract:
The Quebec Securities Commission (QSC) is seeking jurisdiction over the Toronto Stock Exchange and a proposed junior equities exchange. The proposed reorganization of Canada's securities markets would see the emergence of national exchanges - with blue chips trading in Toronto, junior stocks in the West and derivatives in Montreal. QSC, which has regulatory jurisdication over only the Montreal Exchange, wants to oversee the three exchanges to protect the investments and interests of issuers and investors in the province.
