Eli Lilly treats CEO with golden send-off

Eli Lilly and Co gave its former CEO Randall Tobias the same $1.2 million salary and a $4.2 million bonus as retirement benefits. Tobias, who retired as CEO in mid-1998 and remained chairman until Dec 31, 1998, realized $32 million in exercised options in addition to $115 million options he could exercise. Although he only joined Eli Lilly in 1993, Tobias was credited with 34 years of service to make him eligible for an annual pension of around $1 million at age 65.

SBC dangles exit perks over Ameritech CEO
Article Abstract:
Ameritech CEO Richard Notabaert will get at least $20 million if the company closes its deal to be acquired by SBC Communications. Among the perks are $7 million a year for 30 months if he leaves and does not work for a competitor, a $2.5 million bonus if he stays on the position until the merger is completed, and medical insurance and other benefits for two years after the merger.
