The ownership issue at Vancouver, British Columbia-based WIC Western International Communications Ltd remains unresolved a year after Emily Griffiths sold her stake to Shaw Communications Inc. Griffiths has left three large shareholders - Shaw, CanWest Global Communications Corp and the Allard family of Edmonton, Alberta - to dispute control of the company. Griffiths is the wife of the company's late founder, Frank.

MuchMusic posts highest specialty channel profit

MuchMusic Network posted pretax profit of C$9.7 million in 1998, 31% higher than the year-ago result. This makes MuchMusic the most profitable specialty channel in Canada for 1998, with a return representing almost a quarter of the industry's overall profit. The specialty channel sector earned C$40.6 million in 1998 as it obtained around 27% of the audiences' viewing time.
