Weyerhauser confirms MacBlo takeover still on

Weyerhauser Co has announced that it is pursuing its planned $3.6-billion acquisition of forest product conglomerate MacMillan Bloedel Ltd. Under the deal, MacMillan shareholders would get 0.28 of a Weyerhauser share for every common share held. However, the shares of both companies have recently declined as investors expressed doubts that the deal would be accepted at an Oct 28 vote of MacMillan Bloedel shareholders although the boards of both companies endorsed the deal.

Canfor sees big savings from deal
Article Abstract:
Canfor Corp's planned C$635-million acquisition of Vancouver, Canada-based forest products firm Northwood Inc will save the former C$100 million annually before taxes, thus boosting its competitiveness in the international market, specially in the US. Once the transaction is realized, Vancouver-based Canfor would become Canada's biggest producer of softwood lumber and kraft market pulp, with lumber production to total 2.4 billion ft annually.
