Canada drops to seventh in U.S. patent issues
Article Abstract:
Canada has dropped to seventh spot among foreign countries that are seeking patents in the US. Canada, which was ranked fifth in both 1996 and 1997, has increaseds its patent in the US by 25% to 2,974 patents in 1998.;However, other countries such as Taiwan and Canada made larger increases in secured patents, thus dislodging Canada from the fifth place. The decline indicates that Canada is lagging behind in the international technology race.

The Bush administration proposed on 23 September 2004 that it would lend out some of its vast stockpiles of crude to ease post-hurricane Ivan supply woes, but the offer was too small to halt the continued upward march in global oil prices. Analysts state that the proposed swap arrangement would likely have only a modest impact on supplies and prices, unless larger quantities are involved.
