The massive North American power failure forced many office buildings in Ontario to shut down and send workers home. The blackout also forced down large segments of the country's mobile telephone systems while affecting only a small segment of the fixed-line systems.

The second largest telephone services company in Canada, Telus Corp., has reported that is will market television services in two provinces. Telus has been licensed to sell the new TV service in Alberta and British Columbia.
